Obituary for Patricia Ann Carr

Patricia Ann was blessed with longevity having been born in Detroit Michigan on December 20, 1933 where she lived a rich and full life until November 23, 2020, also in Detroit.
Pat was the last living child born to the late Eugene and Frankie Nelson. She and her younger brother Gerald were close both in age and in their date of birth and while they often fought as siblings do, they shared a deep love for each other. That love manifested and transcended to their children which has served all of them well throughout their lives.
Pat’s engaging personality was evident throughout her high school years at Northwestern, where she cultivated meaningful relationships some of which she maintained until her death.
She matriculated through the University of Detroit where she was active in organizations and clubs and she was a proud member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. The friendships she gained during her time in college sustained her and became the bedrock for her life. There is a saying that goes, “Friends are the family you choose”. Pat poured into her friends and treated them like precious jewels. She was incredibly generous with her time and her love, always wanting to ensure her friends understood their importance in her life.
Never one to sit still, Pat enjoyed traveling and did so often, some of her favorite destinations were California where she lived for a period of time, Washington DC, Hawaii and Minneapolis. She enjoyed bowling, going to the casino and she could play a mean game of bid whist.
Pat enjoyed a career in customer service, having worked in Telecommunications and at JL. Hudson’s.
Pat’s faith and love of God was carefully woven into the fabric of her life through her family’s steadfast and active church participation. Pat was raised in St. Stephen AME Church and later transferred her membership to Tabernacle Baptist Church where she was an active and faithful member for many years. Her love of the Lord was evident in how she lived her life.
Pat had such a nurturing spirit and it was crystal clear in the way that she cared for her family. She was the proud mother of two by birth and a secret keeper for so many others. She often opened her home and her heart and loved deeply. Angel Face was a term of endearment she used for those who touched her heart. When she called you Angel Face, you thought that was a term that she used exclusively with you.
Pat was affectionately known as Patty Cake and Patti Poo and she loved to have fun and would often say, “What is life if you don’t have fun, Every Day”. She didn’t believe in wasting the time she had left on this earth by being sad or depressed. For those that she spoke to regularly, she would remind us that if you woke up each day, you had an obligation to make the most of the time you have and live life to the fullest.

Pat leaves to celebrate her life her daughters, Pamela Hughes (Lewis), and Rhonda Cox
(Walter), her grandson Ashley Price, (Rachel), her great granddaughter, Leah Marie, one nephew Gerald Eugene Nelson (Velisa), a devoted Cousin Natalie Cherry, a host of relatives and a bevy of friends too numerous to mention.
