Obituary for Boyzell Francis Elliard

Boyzell Francis Elliard, affectionately known as "Sonny", was born on January 7, 1933 to the late Boyzell and Elouise Elliard in Saraland, Alabama. He was the oldest brother in a family of 7 siblings, including a brother who preceded him in death, Douglas Elliard.

Boyzell accepted Christ at a young age at Mount Olive Baptist Church in Saraland, Alabama. After joining Second Baptist Church in Detroit, he served as a clerk, a trustee board member, and joined the Brotherhood. He also served with the Men's Day Breakfast and the Fellowship on the Green golf outing. Among his proudest moments was his selection to the Men's Day Hall of Fame in 2017.

He graduated high school from the Mobile County Training School in 1949. Soon afterwards, he moved to Detroit. Boyzell later earned his Bachelor's degree from Wayne State University in 1974.

He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. After he was discharged, he continued his service by working in the Detroit VA Medical Center, primarily as an administrator for over 40 years.

Boyzell married the love of his life, Barbara Webb, on February 17, 1962. Together they had two children, Christopher and Leslie. She preceded him in death in 2006 after 44 years of marriage.

Boyzell enjoyed playing golf with friends and coworkers. He described the game of golf as addicting. He often played on golf courses in Michigan and around the country.

Boyzell departed this life on Tuesday, June 23, 2020. He leaves to cherish his memory: sons, Christopher and Leslie Elliard; sisters, Jessie Hammock, Jacqueline Thomas, and Ella Delorise Smith; brothers, Maurice Elliard and Harold Elliard; two devoted friends, Barbara Williams and John Desaussure; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
