Although we have lost a beautiful soul, we are blessed with the love Ms. Sylvia Greenwood gave and the hope she inspired to her many students and coworkers. I met Ms. Greenwood at Denby, where I was the librarian and she served as the vocal music instructor. I loved her gospel music concerts. When I needed a musician for my family member's funeral service, it was Ms. Greenwood who helped me. I did not learn of her passing until after the funeral. I would have dropped everything to offer my condolences in person to the family.. . I offer my deepest sympathy to her family and the many friends who will miss Ms. Greenwood. She was a lovely person who will be missed. My sincere condolences!

Firstly, I truly apologize for not being able to make it to the funeral services. However, the memories of Ms. Greenwood will live on forever. It was only the grace of God that brought me to Denby High School and to Ms. Greenwood. I was very adamant about not wanting to attend Denby but God had seemed to have other plans for me. It was Ms. Greenwood and I’s first year at the school so she was able to see me grow there as a student, as I was able to see her grow professionally. She respected me as a student first, a singer, songwriter and most importantly a person. I considered her to be my second mom away from home.
I am not sure what kind of high school experience I would have had if I had not gotten involved with choir. Sure, I would have made it through school but the experience just would not have been the same. Ms. Greenwood taught me so much personally and musically and I could never forget her passion and dedication to music and instilling so many things in me.
She always told me that I was the first student who stayed with her all four years of high school and I will forever cherish that and keep that memory close to my heart. May she rest and peace!
My thoughts and prayers goes out to her friends and family.

I am very proud to call Sylvia Greenwood my Aunt. We all know the tremendous musical gifts she was blessed with, but she was equally a good person. Her musical gifts served as a channel to establish relationships with many, including the students she taught over the years as an educator. Whenever I was in her presence, she made me feel important. You were more than an Auntie. You were a big sister, a mother, a friend, a counselor, and most of all my biggest fan, always in my corner offering words of encouragement. I will forever cherish the fond memories and the inspiration you were to many.

To the woman who instilled so much work ethic, music ability and drive into me at a young age. To the woman who taught me how to sing in 7 languages, who’s talent and unapologetic personality I’ve admired and referenced into adulthood... Thank you Mrs. Greenwood.. you made high school beautiful for me. I pray you Rest In Peace, I know your directing a choir up there❤️ Anchors away Mrs. Greenwood I’ll love you forever... Thank you ❤️
