Lenora Mary Thompson (Reynolds) was born 10/17/1928 in New York, New York to Marie Theresa Reynolds and Arnold Leopold Reynolds. Lenora attended Hunter College in New York City, for two years. In 1953, she married Melvin Nolan Thompson Sr. and quit college to raise three children. Lenora and Melvin eventually moved from West Orange, New Jersey to Detroit in 1957. Lenora finished her Bachelors Degree in Education from Wayne State University in 1973, and her Masters Degree in Special Education from University of Detroit, in 1978.
Lenora worked as a Middle School Teacher while pursuing her Masters. After she attained her Graduate Degree, she was promoted to Teacher Consultant—assessing and diagnosing students with learning disabilities, emotional impairment or emotional and mental impairment. This was a career in which she excelled, and it would help her later in life.
After surviving a major stroke in 2011, in which the speech center was damaged, Lenora was able to use her skills to teach herself read words and numbers again. A year after her stroke she woke up and sang Happy Birthday to her husband, Melvin. No one told her what day it was.
Lenora can be remembered for her devotion to her husband, love of God, and her enjoyment in researching and trading stocks. However, she can be most remembered for her tenacity and strength. She was an independent, strong woman, who took care of others and herself as best she could, throughout her entire life.
Lenora is survived by brother Arnold Curtis Reynolds, daughter Patricia Beth Thompson (Barb Grissop), son Melvin Nolan Thompson Jr. (Lois), and daughter Lena Marie Thompson (Debora Pond), two grandsons Preston and Ambrose, and the cutest great granddaughter Willow Irie.
