Obituary for Verneda L. Clouston

Verneda L.  Clouston
Verneda Louise (Payne) Clouston affectionately known as “Sweets” was born March 27, 1924 in Memphis TN. Verneda was the oldest child born to Aaron Payne and Marie Ivory. Aaron, Marie and her younger sister preceded her in death.

Verneda accepted Christ at an early age and continued to love the Lord throughout her life, as she would say “put God first.” She enjoyed attending church, as a dedicated member of Chapel Hill Missionary Baptist Church, going to the National Baptist Conventions and visiting with family and friends.

Verneda was educated in the Memphis Public School System, graduating from Booker T. Washington High School, after high school Verneda attended nursing school. However, before completing nursing school her sweetheart Arthur return home from the Army.

In 1942, Verneda married Arthur Louis “Boots” Clouston from that union two children were born, Robert Louis “Bobby” Clouston, and Wanda Marie Clouston. Arthur preceded her in death.
Verneda never met a stranger and talked to everyone she met. She always cared about people and believed in helping and servicing them.
As a caring and loving homemaker, Verneda became a smart business woman and entrepreneur through the years. She taught her family how to stretch a dollar to make it last weeks instead of days.

Small in stature,Verneda was a fighter until the end.

Verneda leaves behind to cherish her memory: a son Robert Louis “Bobby” Clouston, a daughter Wanda Marie Clouston, grandson Marcus Louis Clouston and a stepdaughter Mrs. Werdna Wesson and son-in-law Roy Wesson their children and grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family members and friends.
