Obituary for Frances Jacquelyn Summers (Leonard)

Frances Jacquelyn Summers was born on December 8, 1935 to Henry and Mary Leonard in Detroit, Michigan. She accepted Christ and was baptized at an early age. She graduated from River Rouge High School in January 1954.

Frances and Richard Leverette were united in matrimony in 1954. From this union two children were born: Ricarla and Richard.

In 1962, she was united in matrimony to Willie Burton. To this union two children were born: Mary Frances and Kenneth.

In 1988, Frances was united in matrimony to William Summers.

Frances spent many years as a homemaker. During this time, she occupied her time by volunteering at the YWCA in Highland Park, going door to door selling Avon, sewing, knitting, crocheting and was an income tax preparer for many years.

Later in life, she went to work for the Secretary of State, where she retired in 1996 after 10.5 years of service. After Frances retired, she liked to occupy her time researching genealogy and working Sudoku puzzles.

In 1980 Frances joined Pleasant Grove Missionary Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday school, sat on the Mother’s Board and worked with the grief ministry until her health failed.

On November 10, 2017 at 11:36 am, she was called home to be with the Lord. She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Mary Leonard.

She leaves to cherish her memory: two sons, Richard Leverette and Kenneth Burton (Angela); two daughters, Ricarla Leverette and Mary Brooks (Harvey); 3 grandchildren, Jacquelyn Leverette, Timothy and Brandon Brooks; 1 great grandson, Kendale Leverette; 1 great great granddaughter, Zahara Leverette; 2 sisters, Judith Flowers and Rosemary Reed (Robert) and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends.
